BACKGROUND
Balacbac is located in the outskirts of Baguio City. The host church was built by a Korean missionary and has been in existence for about 15 years. The church building is surrounded by a fairly poor neighborhood. Most of which classified themselves as Catholics and belonging to other faiths. Few years ago, their Filipino pastor had to leave due to immoral behavior and other related personal issues. As a result, most of the adult members left the church but their kids remain in this church. The youth group is very active in church and we believe that this generation will do wonderful things for the Lord, for the community, and for the country as a whole. The new Filipino pastor is now trying to win back those old members who left and expands his ministry to the whole community of Balacbac.
COMMENTS:
Praise the Lord, there were seven churches represented during this mission outreach. We continue to invite other church workers to take part in our mission outreaches in order to expand the awareness of evangelism exposure in our Christian faith.
In a metropolitan area such as Balacbac, we used an innovative approach to bring the lost to the mission point. We did it by personal invitation instead of posting banners on strategic locations throughout the barangay. We found out that this method is an effective way to control the target population. Prior to the mission outreach, members of the church visited the target community (house to house) to invite them to the medical mission outreach. It is a pre-evangelism visit to the target community. It also set the stage for a friendly sharing of the Gospel at the mission point and it establishes a baseline for a non-threatening approach to follow-up. The contact community was pre-registered during that initial visit. During the visit, prospects are given numbers and specific times to show up at the mission point. This process contributed significantly to a smooth, and a very efficient operation. We started this process in Balungau, Pangasinan last year and we will continue to capitalize on it when conducting medical mission outreaches in metropolitan areas.
The “by invitation process” was necessary to limit attendance to the target groups of people that can be legitimately nurtured through effective follow-up. Sure, we can service the whole barangay of Balacbac but the host church wouldn’t be able to follow-up on all of them up. Our primary objective remains, that is to share the Gospel to the lost and to establish an effective follow-up action.
Although we weren’t able to invite all people in the barangay, we believed that God has effectively used us to reach out to the community around the church. We pray that God will use those people that were touched by this mission outreach to tell the good news to their neighbors, friends, co-workers, and relatives.
To all volunteers, thank you for your personal sacrifices and love for the lost souls. To our supporters and prayer partners, thank you once again for your participation. We couldn’t have done it without your prayers, support, and encouragement. Thank you for your love donations to support God’s work in the mission field. May God return what you have given in a thousand fold. To God be the glory.
God bless you.
