Here is a quick description of our mission trip to Kampala:
Spring Hill Baptist Church members Andy & Christina Berry and Eric Myers joined 5 members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church (from Alabama) as part of a volunteer mission team.
The primary goal was to assist local Ugandan believers (Kampala Urban Team) and International Mission Board (IMB) missionaries in their work in planting house churches throughout the city of Kampala. Usually accompanied by a Ugandan interpreter, our team would split up and walk through neighborhoods starting conversations with people and then sharing the Gospel with them. Some of the neighborhoods were actually slums composed of displaced people groups from neighboring Sudan, Congo and Northern Uganda. Many times we accompanied existing house churches in their outreach efforts. We were able to share through singing, the "Evangel Cube", personal testimony and a little bit of preaching, with God's help.
As house churches take root in local neighborhoods, other house churches in the same area are planted to accomodate the growth. Currently there are near 30 house churches scattered throughout a large urban area. Over 200 people have been baptized since January '06 in this ministry. New believers are placed into a local house church for discipling and for outreach training.
We were also blessed to see a food distribution site through a partner with IMB - the Manna Ministry through the International Missionaries for Chris (IMFC). Food aid is provided and the Gospel is preached at the same time.
