2021 Ministry Plan
We Are Moving Forward Together
Introduction
Our plans for 2021 have been shaped through prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit and represent a bold, ambitious perspective on what God is calling us to do. In spite of the challenges that our country and community have faced in the past year, God has been faithful to us. He has guided us towards new paths of worship, allowing us to reach beyond our four walls like never before. Our staff has been creative and energetic in adapting ministry, leveraging resources, and inspiring us. You have not wavered in your financial support of our ministries and have stepped up to serve in new ways. Teams have revitalized our Constitution and Bylaws and reframed our Vision, Mission, and Values to reflect God’s current desires for us. Now we have a strong foundation, inspiring us to set a bold direction for ministry in 2021. We will “Meet our neighbors where they are to share the good news of Jesus Christ, with compassion for the lost, hurt and needy.”

Acts 1:7-8 (NIV): He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Vision, Mission and Values
A project team, led by Mike Layman, reviewed Spring Hill’s Vision, Mission and Values (VMV) statement and has recommended updating it in a fresh way that reflects God’s calling to us as a congregation:

Vision: Bring Hope. Share Christ. Impact the World.

Mission: Create opportunities to follow Jesus

Values: We boldly live out these core attributes:
▪          Compassionate – concern for the lost, loving God and loving others around us
▪          Collaborative – working in unity, and partnering with others
▪          Committed – to making disciples, to growing spiritually, to serving, to stewardship and worshiping God continuously

Several Zoom sessions were conducted on December 8 and 9 to allow members to review the proposed VMV and have their questions answered. To review the full Vision, Mission, Values statement, click here.
Constitution and Bylaws
A project team, led by Steve Ferguson, was nominated by the Leadership Ministry Team and approved by the congregation in December 2019. The team recommends changes that clarify and streamline the governance of Spring Hill’s ministries. and more accurately reflect current needs and practices.
Several Zoom sessions were conducted on December 8 and 9 to allow members to review the proposed changes to the Constitution and Bylaws and have their questions answered.  To review a summary of the proposed changes, click here.
Ministry Plan
Guided by the foundation of the refreshed Vision, Mission, and Values, as well as the updated Bylaws, a Ministry Plan has been clearly documented for the first time since 2008. Our emphasis in 2021 will be to “Meet our neighbors where they are to share the good news of Jesus Christ, with compassion for the lost, hurt and needy.”

The Ministry Plan has been developed by a collaborative, prayerful effort between the Pastoral Staff, Leadership Team, Deacons, and Ministry Teams with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It includes five distinct strategies that will guide Ministry Teams in implementing their plans.

1. Share and continually reinforce Spring Hill’s Vision, Mission, and Values to inspire members to deepen their faith and serve.
The Worship Ministry will create generational-specific communications by various means (web updates, video clips, bulletins, sermon series, small group training, and weekly email) to share the tenets of our VMV. The Leadership Team will integrate our VMV as the foundation of the annual planning process on an ongoing basis, with a church-wide celebration of accomplishments each year.

2.  Experiment with distributed forms of worship (e.g., residential worship services, home-based small groups, and community Bible studies) and promote what works.
The Missions Team will investigate and discover the top three felt needs of members of our community (Greene County and northern Albemarle County). The Worship Team will explore avenues, methods and venues for creating opportunities for worship and service, to help meet these needs. The Discipleship Team will launch a Life Groups Ministry to organize small groups in homes.

3. Leverage community relationships to discover opportunities for sharing the gospel while serving alongside.
Based on input from membership, staff, Deacons and other teams, we will inventory our current involvement in community-based organizations, activities, and events to identify opportunities to build relationships and share faith. The Missions and Family Ministry Teams will collaborate to discover ways to expand and nurture three of these existing partnerships.

4.  Inspire and equip Spring Hill members to build relationships, share their faith stories, and lead people to Christ.
The Discipleship Team will implement a menu of training resources, specifically aimed at relationship building, faith sharing, and community involvement, and synchronize messages among worship services, Small Groups, Life Groups, and Bible studies. The team will then urge every member to write down their faith story, and share it with three people whom they don’t know well. The Deacons, in collaboration with all of the Ministry Teams, will help foster a Spring Hill culture that encourages every member to invite neighbors, welcome visitors, and build strong relationships with new members. We will mentor members, especially new members, and help them to become comfortable finding places of service within Spring Hill.

5.  Build relationships throughout our community, with the intention of spreading the Gospel; explore opportunities in our neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and online.
The Ministry Teams will challenge every member to “be present” in their neighborhood, prayerfully watchful for opportunities to personally or corporately minister to others and invite them to church-sponsored activities as a first step in reaching them for Christ. The Worship and Family Ministry Teams will enrich and expand our online witness and encourage members to become active in social media (Facebook Groups, Meetup.com, etc.) for the purpose of getting out of their comfort zone to build new relationships.

Annual Budget
The proposed budget includes funding for the ongoing ministries of the church and reflects the Ministry Plan strategies. The total recommended 2021 Budget is $549,791, reflecting a 21.18% increase over our 2020 Budget. The increase is related to necessary increases in the Personnel area to reflect health insurance increases and the need to provide for more focused support to continually improve our online worship opportunities and social media presence. To accomplish this, the Administrative Assistant responsibilities will be separated from the current responsibilities of the Media Specialist, reducing the incumbent’s hours to 20 hours per week and adding a new 20-hour Administrative Assistant position. The combined Ministry Team budgets remain relatively flat compared to this year. For the full budget proposal, click the link below.
